Private investigator guilty of wire fraud

BillingsGazette.com :: Private investigator guilty of wire fraud: "A Montana private investigator pleaded guilty to wire fraud Tuesday for bilking a dozen U.S. law offices, including a firm once used by Martha Stewart and former AIG chairman Maurice R. Greenberg.

Michael Lair, 46, admitted in U.S. District Court that he wrongfully accepted at least $200,000 from the firms between 2003 and 2006 by promising to deliver information about highly publicized lawsuits, including one involving Greenberg.

Lair said he knew he could not get the information the companies wanted.

Lair does not have a listed telephone number in the Bozeman area and could not be reached for comment Tuesday."
