Benabbou was arrested at her home around 6 a.m. today and processed at the Wake County Jail. She faces felony charges and could be imprisoned if convicted.
Her alleged co-conspirator, Husam Doulati, 35, also of Raleigh, is at large and wanted.
The two are accused of staging an auto accident and allegedly filing a claim for more than $5,000 with Progressive Mutual Insurance Company. The company paid the claim but a tip to the Department of Insurance led to a criminal investigation."
