Insurance Criminals Busted in N.C.: Four People Arrested for Fraud Ring, Woman Charged with Embezzling Premiums - 2/27/2007 - insurancenewsnet.com: "Jim Long, North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance, is on a mission to rid his state of insurance fraud. According to him, insurance fraud in North Carolina is big business and is on the rise.

On February 23, 49-year old Margaret Corey Humphrey was arrested on two charges of obtaining property by false pretense and three charges of embezzling insurance premium.

Between July 2004 to November 2005, officials accused Humphrey of taking premium payments from 15 customers amounting to $6,700 using her Nationwide Insurance office in Wayne County. Humphrey surrendered her insurance agent license on the order of the Department of Insurance and is now under a $20,000 secured bond. Humphrey’s alleged illegal activities were first exposed in 2005 from a tip received by the department. Humphrey will face prison time if found guilty."
