Investigator Named In FTC Complaint

Investigator Named In FTC Complaint: "A Spring Hill private investigator linked to the recent pretexting scandal at Hewlett-Packard Co. is named in a complaint filed last month by the Federal Trade Commission.

In the complaint, federal attorneys accuse Cassandra Selvage and three other people of using deceptive investigative techniques, known as pretexting, to acquire private phone records.

In pretexting, investigators pose as someone else - often, the person whose records they are seeking or a telephone company employee - to obtain confidential information.

Selvage, 37, owner of Eye in the Sky Investigations, could not be reached for comment Friday.

The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court Feb. 14, seeks to stop Selvage and a Melbourne-based firm, Action Research Group, from using pretexting to obtain and sell phone records."
