Klamath Falls Seeks To Expand Background Checks

KOBI NBC5 - Klamath Falls Seeks To Expand Background Checks: "The City of Klamath Falls is in the process of tightening up their background check policies and in doing so will afford non-profits the opportunity to scrutinize employees or volunteers before they are hired.

City managerJeff Ball, says that background checks already exist but the new proposals will allow additional services to be provided.

'What this policy does, in compliance with the state requirements, allows us to expand in two different areas. One is with respect to volunteers, where there is a lot of contact with the public, especially kids.

This opens it up to where all volunteers are subject to the criminal background, criminal history check should the organization request it.

The other thing it does, is it creates a policy that would allow non-profits in the community to request us to run checks of their own folks, and to do that through L.E.D.S.

If a law enforcement data systems check shows a criminal history, detailed information can then be requested, and kept on file for three years."
