Dorm employees to undergo background review for criminal record at time of annual job renewal
Anyone who works at the University of Akron's dorms will have to undergo a criminal background check.
The UA board of trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to mandate the checks on new hires -- both students and nonstudents.
The requirement will affect about 350 positions, of which nearly 300 are filled by students employed as residence hall staff members.
The approximately 50 nonstudent workers will undergo background checks at their annual renewal in late spring. The student workers, most of whom are employed through yearly contracts, will undergo their background checks when they reapply before July 1.
